Letro, Isleib Lead Utes Into Big Matchup at Wyoming

The Utes are in Laramie, Wyo. this weekend to finish up their regular season play. They go toe to toe with the Cowgirls in one of the biggest games of the season. The Utes need to bring home a win over the Cowgirls in order to win the No. 2 seed in the Mountain West Conference tournament. The season has been an up and down roller coaster for the Utes with a conference record of 3-1-2 and an overall record of 11-3-4, but the Utes are fired up for Saturday's kickoff at noon.
The team is well-prepared for the matchup. This week's practices have been intense and everyone has been working hard to get ready for the Cowgirls. Junior forward Adele Letro has cleared everything out of her mind except for the game tomorrow. To come out with the No. 2 seed in the MWC Tournament, the Utes need to work together as a team.
"All of our lines have to work together in order for us to win," Letro said. "Our defense is going to have come out big because Wyoming's great attacking ability. Offensively we need to come out strong and put them away early."
With the Utes being well-rounded across the field with the ability to work hard and together that should be no problem. Having two nationally-ranked players also makes things a little easier. This season, both Letro and sophomore midfielder, Kelly Isleib, have received national attention.
Letro ranks No. 1 in the MWC and No. 3 in the nation in goals per game (1.0) and also has tallied four assists this season, giving her 38 total points for an average of 2.24 per game, which ranks No. 1 in the MWC and No. 6 in the nation. She made her 17th goal against San Diego State University last Sunday, moving her into second place on the school single-season chart. Even after all of the recognition she still doesn't believe it until a teammate gives her a hard time about it, Letro said.
"It has been really nice and I appreciate all of the support I have received from friends, family, and teammates," Letro said.
Letro knows that she would not be the player she is without the help of her teammates, especially without Isleib. Isleib is the player that everyone wishes they were or that they had on their team. She ranks No. 1 in the MWC and No. 2 in the nation in assists per game. She is averaging .75 assists per contest and she scored her first goal this season last Sunday against SDSU. Her specialty is to pass and create plays with little time and space.
"She just knows where I am going to be and puts it there flawlessly," Letro said. "She is probably one of the best midfielders I've played with and has helped a lot with my success."
The play of the Ute duo of Letro and Isleib is random and unexpected, making it impossible for opponents to shut the two of them down. The two Utes played together this summer, which has helped them this season in knowing where to look for each other.
Isleib is equally grateful for the opportunity to play with such an outstanding player like Letro. "It's fun to play with someone who is always dangerous," Isleib said. "I never feel like we are out of a game because she can create something and score at any time."
