Women's Tennis Player Earns P.O.W. Honor

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team is proud to anounce that sophomore Elizabeth Ferris has earned the honor of MWC women's tennis player of the week.
A native from Anaheim, Calif., Ferris earned this honor from her victory over Olga Boulytcheva of BYU last week. Playing at the No. 1 singles spot, Ferris posted a 3-6, 7-6(3), 11-9 win. Boulytcheva was ranked No. 18 but due to the loss is now ranked No. 23. The ITA currently has Elizabeth Ferris nationally ranked as No. 74 in singles play.

"It is nice to see one of our Utah players get the recognition she deserves. Liz, like Emily, is a player within the conference that is sometimes overlooked, but as she and others on our team step up and play consistent tennis day in and day out, good things will begin to happen."

"A sophomore from Anaheim, Calif., Ferris upset 23rd-ranked Olga Boulytcheva of BYU (3-6, 7-6 [3], 11-9) in No. 1 singles as the Utes nearly upset the No. 23 Cougars, falling 3-4 in the match. Ferris also defeated Weber State's Elana Smit (6-1, 6-2), helping Utah to a 7-0 win over the Wildcats. In No. 1 doubles, Ferris teamed with Allison Hansen-Sine to defeat Weber State 8-2, while falling short vs. BYU in doubles (7-8 [5])."
