THIS WEEK:
The Utes will open up the conference schedule with a dual meet against UNLV. Utah will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the meet on Nov. 4, at 2:00 p.m. PT. The meet will be held at the Buchanan Natatorium on the campus of UNLV and will field both men's and women's teams in competition.
UTE NOTES:
Utah's women are off to a 2-0 start on the season and look to continue their recent success in the conference with the season opener against UNLV. Utah is coming off its third consecutive regular season conference championship and last season the team won its first conference championship. This the Utes have started off strong, beating Denver at home and last weekend they beat UC San Diego 170-90.
The Utah men's team sits at 2-0 on the season as well and will be looking to avenge a loss at the hands of the Rebels last season. The Utes have jumped out to a strong start with victories over Denver 188-95 and UC San Diego 170-90. Ute Adam Oliver was also named the MWC Swimmer of the Week for his performance at the Beehive Relays and against Denver.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
The Rebels sit at 0-1 on both the men's and women's front heading into the meet with the Utes. UNLV lost to Arizona State in its only meet thus far on the season.
The UNLV men's team is coming off a conference championship last season and this season boasts a very strong squad with strengths in the sprint and distance freestyle events. Those events could go far in determining the winner on Saturday. On the women's side the Rebels have strong swimmers in both breaststroke and sprint freestyle events.
LAST MEETING WITH UNLV:
Last season in women's competition Utah beat UNLV 148-95 on their way to the conference championship. The Ute men lost 130-111 to the Rebels, who won the conference crown.
QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH Michael Litzinger:
"The UNLV men are the best team in the league and we expect them to be at their best. This is traditionally a very competitive dual meet and we are looking forward to the opportunity to compete against them. The UNLV women are very deep this year and have a lot of quality athletes. It should be a very competitive meet."
