LOMPOC, Calif. - The University of Utah men's golf team finished 17th at the Bite/Pacific Intercollegiate Tuesday. The Utes shot a three round score of 916 (+52) at the 72-par LaPurisima Golf Course. UC Davis won the event, finishing with a 15-over par 879.
For the Utes, senior Ashdon Woods lead the way, finishing tied for 24th with a three-round score of 224 (+8). Woods struggled in the first two rounds, shooting a 77 and 76 respectively, before finishing the tournament at one-under par (71) in the final round.
Steve Newren and Dustin Pimm tied for 42nd and 54th respectively. Newren finished with a score of 228 (+12) after shooting a 78 (+6) in the first and third rounds, and a 72 (par) in the second round. Pimm finished one stroke behind Newren at 229 (+13). Pimm shoot a 72 in the first round, but struggled in the final two rounds with scores of 79 (+7) and 78 (+6) respectively.
Nick Carter tied for 93rd place, and freshman Chris Gresh finished 108th. Carter shot a three-round score of 237 (+21), while Gresh tallied a total of 249 (+33) strokes.
The Utes are back in action April 11-12 at the University of Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
