THIS WEEK: The University of Utah women's tennis team continues its spring break road trip with four match ups in California. Throughout the duration of the week, No. 75 Utah will match up against three nationally ranked teams. On Wednesday, March 17, the Utes take on No. 70 Nebraska at Newport Beach, Calif. at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 18, Utah faces off against No. 65 UC Irvine at Irvine at 1:00 p.m. and No. 64 Long Beach State on Friday, March 19 at Long Beach at 2:00 p.m. The road trip concludes on Sunday, March 21 with a match up against UC Santa Barbara at Santa Barbara at 10:00 a.m.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: The women's tennis team suffered two losses last weekend in Texas. On Friday, March 12, the Utes fell 7-0 to the No. 56 Rice Owls. Saturday, March 13, Utah chalked up one more loss with a 5-0 decision to the University of Houston Cougars. All doubles matches were cancelled and one singles match was stopped due to rain. With the losses, Utah drops to 5-6 on the season.
UTE NOTES: For the first time in years, Utah has broken into national rankings. Currently, the Utes are ranked No. 75 in the ITA polls.
Junior Allison Hansen and freshman Ashley Young are still unable to compete due to injury. Shannon Bullard, a junior from Ogden, and Jenacee Jackson, a freshman from Salt Lake have joined the lineup to help the Utes out.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: The University of Nebraska is ranked No. 70, with an 8-4 overall record. The Huskers are in the Big 12 and have a 0-3 conference mark. Nebraska's Gitte Ostermann, who plays at the No. 1, is ranked No. 42 in the nation.
The University of California at Irvine has a 7-5 mark on the season and a No. 65 national ranking. The Anteaters belong to the Big West Conference and have compiled a 2-2 conference record.
Long Beach State is currently ranked No. 64 and has been ranked as high as 63 this season. The 49ers have compiled an 8-5 record overall and are 3-0 in the Big West conference. All five losses this season have been to nationally ranked teams.
The University of California at Santa Barbara has a 6-7 mark on the season. Also part of the Big West, the Gauchos are 3-4 in conference play.
