SALT LAKE CITY - The (1-0-1) University of Utah women's soccer team ends in a scoreless tie against (0-1-1) Northwestern, Thursday on Ute Field. The Utes gave a tremendous effort and had many chances at goal, but were unable to connect.

"This was very frustrating," remarked senior forward Katie Tate. "We didn't come out the way we should have. We need to come back on Sunday more focused".

Utah had many opportunities in the last five minutes of the second half. In the first overtime, senior Shauna Gurr-Bingham missed a 10-yard blast off the goal-post as the final minutes clicked away. In the second overtime, Tate dowsed a header with five minutes remaining that was unsuccessful. Utah outshot the Wildcats by a margin of 16-5 overall.

The Utes pressuring defense allowed only five shots. Junior goalkeeper Lynnsey Asay-Kimball ended the game with one save, while Northwestern's goalkeeper Susie McCreery racked up nine saves.

Katie Tate led the way for the Utes with five shots, while two of those shots were shot-on-goal. Heather Wilhelm-Carter also added two shot-on-goal attempts.

"We were not mentally ready," said coach Manning. "We clearly came out in the first half, but we struggled in our positioning. In the second half we played better. We came out with some momentum to score. I think we are very competitive, but we just weren't very focused today".

Next up the Utes will tackle No. 18 ranked Kentucky. This match will be held at Ute Field on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
