Utah Women's Basketball Drops Quarterfinal Game Of MWC Tourney

Las Vegas, Nev. - The University of Utah women's basketball team dropped the quarterfinal game of the MWC Tournament to the Rebels of UNLV, 57-38 on Wed., Mar. 6 in Las Vegas, Nev. Utah ends it season with a 15-12 overall record, 8-6 in the MWC. UNLV improves to 22-6 overall, 9-5 in MWC play.
Both teams matched-up in a very physical game tonight. The Utes committed 20 personal fouls on the night and turned the ball over 24 times. Utah was able to shoot just 28 percent (12-43) from the field, 27 percent from 3-point range (3-11) and 52 percent (11-21) from the charity stripe on the night.
On the night, Carley Marshall came off the bench and tallied 10 points and eight rebounds. Senior Lauren Beckman added seven points and led the team with nine boards. Lindsay Herbert tallied nine points and Erin Gibbons posted six points in the effort.
For UNLV, senior Linda Frohlich led all scorers with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Julia Gray and Sherry McCracklin added 10 points each. The Rebels shot 37 percent (21-57) from the field, 21 percent (3-14) from behind the arc and 63 percent (12-19) from the charity stripe. UNLV out-rebounded the Utes, 41-39 in the game.
"It (the game) just got away from us," said Head Coach Elaine Elliott. "We handled them (UNLV) until we were just down by one and then all of a sudden we have three or four possessions in a row that they got second chances. That's when you have to be able to stay composed and that didn't happen. They're good on the glass and that was a stretch we just never recovered from."
