COMING UP:
The University of Utah women's basketball team will open the regular season this Friday, Nov. 22, at Texas Christian in Fort Worth, Texas. Tip-off is 5:15 p.m. (CST).
A QUICK LOOK AT UTAH:
The Utes defeated Northwest Sports Stars, a team of former collegiate players, 67-39 last Thursday, to complete their exhibition season with a 2-0 record. The Utes shot just over 39 percent on the game. Utah was out-rebounded 39-36, but forced 27 Star turnovers and committed only eight. Sophomore Shona Thorburn led all scorers with 16 points. She also added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Freshman Kim Smith finished with 12 points and five boards. Junior Carley Marshall posted a game-high eight rebounds to go along with nine points and four assists. Utah won its two exhibition games by a combined total of 75 points.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
The TCU Lady Frogs completed the exhibition portion of their 2002-03 schedule with a 72-65 victory over the Oklahoma Flyers last Friday. TCU outscored the Flyers 9-2 in the game's final 3:12 to turn a tie score into a seven-point win. Junior Amy Pack led the Lady Frogs with 14 points. Sophomore Sandora Irvin added nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. TCU went 28-for-73 (.384) from the field on the night, but connected on just 5-of-21 (.238) three-point field goal attempts. The Frogs limited the Flyers to just 31 percent shooting from the floor (22-for-71). Oklahoma struggled inside the arc, going 11-for-39 (.282). TCU is ranked No. 20 in the nation in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll.

INTERNATIONAL INVASION:
The Utes are one of just 16 NCAA Division I institutions with four or more international players on its roster. Utah boasts four of the nine foreign players in the Mountain West Conference in Hanna Green (Germany), Caroline Matthews (Australia), and Kim Smith and Shona Thorburn (Canada). Smith and Thorburn are both members of the Canadian National Team.
