NORTHRIDGE, Calif.- The Utah men's golf team won the Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate by 18 strokes on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Utah finished with a team score of 867 (292-287-288); three-over-par. Casey Fowles led the Utes and finished in first overall with his 208 (70-70-68), eight-under-par performance. When asked about the win, head coach Wayne Fisher said, "I'm not surprised, but I am very pleased with how the team performed. We knew we could do it."
Individually the Utes had great performances all around, aside from Fowles winning, Garrett Clegg finished 10th with a three-round score of 219 (73-73-73), three-over-par. Luke Swilor added a 220 (76-72-80), four-over-par, finishing in a tie for 13th. Steve Newren added a 225 (73-72-80), nine-over-par, good for a tie in 19th and Carl Jensen finished tied for 24th with his 227 (77-75-75), 11-over-par.
This is the first win of the season for the Utes. "We finally put together three consecutive good rounds for our first win in along time." added Fisher.
This is also the first tournament of the year where a Utah player has finished first individually. For Utah this tournament concludes the fall season and they will not resume play until February. Finishing behind the Utes was North Texas with a team score of 885, followed by Austin Peay State with a score of 888.
