SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah's women's tennis squad defeated in-state rival Weber State, 4-2. Utah performed extremely well in both doubles and singles. The Utes undefeated duel record improves to 3-0 on the season.
In singles action, senior Irini Kotoglou was victorious over Chelsea Drews in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Utah's Sheri Esrock continues to play well as she doused Tiffany Smith, 6-1, 6-1. Cassie Kasteler defeated Briana Beachene, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Allison Hansen defeated Tara Rosenweig, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles action, the Kotoglou and Hansen duo defeated Tara Rosenzweig and Chelsee Drews, 8-3. Linn Ronnberg and Esrock finished off Beachene and Smith, 8-4. Ellen Svensson and Kasteler were over come by Weber State's Therina Steenkamp and Dana DeLancey, 8-5.
Utah will travel to Lafayette, Ind. to take on Purdue. Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1:00 p.m. "This will be a big test for the team because Purdue has an excellent team this year," says head coach John Tsumas. "We are playing extremely well and I hope we can continue to play this way on the road."
