Salt Lake City - The No. 15th ranked University of Utah women's volleyball team recorded their 11th straight win in four games over No. 25 ranked Utah State, 22-30, 30-28, 30-27, 30-20 on Tues., Oct. 23, at Crimson Court. Utah improves to 14-4 overall, 6-2 in the MWC. Utah State falls to 11-5 on the season, 7-1 in Big West play.
Sophomore Kim Turner racked up 16 kills and McKelle Stilson had 15 kills and set a career-high 372 block assists to lead the Utes past the Aggies. Turner hit for .273, while Stilson hit for .367. Junior Sylva Strzinkova notched 14 kills and 11 digs. Senior Alisa Geddes totaled 16 digs, while Jackie Morrill posted 32 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Kelsie Kartchner notched 27 assists in the match. As a team Utah posted an .186 hitting percentage. Utah racked up 19.0 blocks in the match.
For the Aggies, Michelle Matheson totaled 13 kills for a .222 hitting percentage. Shauni Fluckiger added 12 kills and 18 digs, while Chelsie Neves posted 40 assists and had 17 digs. Utah State hit for .122 in the match.
"It was a really tough match, and Utah State is a very good team," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "We found some weaknesses and exploited them. Early on we played flat, but we used the middle to our advantage and I am proud of the way our team battled regaining their focus and winning the match."
UP NEXT: The Utes are back on the road on Fri., Oct. 26 vs. New Mexico and on Sat., Oct. 27 vs. Air Force. Match times are set for a 7:00 p.m. start. On Fri., Nov. 2, Utah will host the Wyoming Cowgirls at 7:00 p.m. The Utes will match-up with the Colorado State Rams on Sat., Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m. at Crimson Court.
