Utah Volleyball gets Back in Win Column Against Utah State

Utes record their fifth sweep of the season against the Aggies on the road
LOGAN, Utah– Utah Volleyball got back in the win column Friday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, sweeping Utah State (25-17, 25-19, 25-23).
The Utes' 3-0 set effort against the Aggies was the fifth of their 2026 season. Utah remains undefeated in three-set matches on the year.
SET ONE
Utah jumped out to a 12-8 lead early in set one over Utah State after Kamryn Gibadlo hit her fourth kill of the fledgling match.
The Aggies did close some ground by mid-way of the set, but Katelynn Field got the Utes to the 15-point mark (15-12) to siren the technical break in the first set.
It only took the Utes two plays out of the break to build their lead back up, 18-12, with Levani Falatea registering a kill and an unforced error by USU.
Utah wrapped up set one recording a kill from Princess Atamah for a 25-17 victory heading into set two.
SET TWO
Utah State was the one to gain an early lead in set two, registering a 5-3 advantage. Utah stuck with it and tied things up at 8 off an Atamah kill.
Set two remained close through the middle of play with four ties and one lead change recorded as the Utes led 12-11. Utah tied the set one more time at 14 after a long rally gave the Aggies a brief lead, 14-13. The Utes got the game to the technical timeout for a second time, taking a 15-14 lead after a Gibadlo kill.
Loryn Helgesen got in on the action against her old squad in the second set, posting a block assist and kill before Ashley West added a kill of her own. Gibadlo set up set point, 24-18.
Atamah sealed the deal for the Utes, taking the set win, 25-19.
SET THREE
The Aggies took a quick lead again, 4-1, over the Utes to start set three. Utah got within two of Utah State, 7-5, due to a USU service error.
USU took a four-point lead near the middle of the set, 10-6, but the Utes got back within one, 13-12, off kills from Field, Helgesen, and Gibadlo. Utah continued to apply pressure, taking three unanswered points into the technical break for a 15-14 lead over the Aggies.
Utah State stayed persistent, going up 19-17, and forcing the Utes to take a timeout. The Utes came out hot on the heels of Gibadlo, who had back-to-back kills out of the break to tie things up at 19.
The Utes and Aggies continued their back-and-forth affair late into the third set. Gibadlo landed an ace that put Utah ahead, 22-21, until USU tied it up for an eighth time.
Back-to-back kills from Helgesen and Gibadlo put the Utes ahead with match point, 24-22. Utah State answered with a kill of its own to make it a 24-23 game, forcing Utah to call one last timeout.
Fittingly, Helgesen, put an end to the match, giving Utah the win, 25-23.

- Utah recorded its fifth sweep of the season and has not lost a three-set match this season
- Field tied a career-high 8 kills (second on the team) and recorded her highest hit percentage of the season (.636) against the Aggies
- Gibadlo dominated in all phases leading the Utes in kills (16) while putting up a .424 hitting percentage, one ace, four digs, and two blocks
- Isabella Mogridge and Isabelle Marco were nearly even distributing the ball at 20 and 19 respectively
