Utah Women's Basketball Continues Win Streak

Salt Lake City - The University of Utah women's basketball team continued its win streak with an impressive 67-49 victory over Montana at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Thurs., Dec. 7. The Utes improve to 7-0 overall, 0-0 in the Mountain West Conference. Montana drops to 4-2 overall.
Utah's second-half shooting clinic saw three players score in double-figures. Utah's defensive play forced 13 Montana turnovers as the Utes racked up eight steals and eight blocked shots.
For the Utes, junior Lindsay Herbert tallied a career-high 19 points and eight boards. Herbert went 6-of-13 from the field, 3-of-7 from 3-point land and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Whitney Sutak racked up a career-high 16 points, scoring 13 in the second half alone. Sutak went 5-of-9 from the line, 2-of-4 from the 3-point line and 4-4 from the free-throw line. Junior Lauren Beckman recorded her second double-double of the season, posting 15 points and 12 rebounds. Beckman shot 7-of-11 from the field and added three blocked shots. Utah went 25-of-60 (42 percent) from the field, 6-of-22 (27 percent) from three-point range and 11-of-13 (85 percent) from the free-throw line.
For the Lady Griz, Linda Cummings and Lauren Cooper combined for 26 of Montana's 49 points. Cummings went 2-for-9 from the field and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line. Cooper shot 4-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from behind the arc. Simarron Schildt led the Lady Griz with seven boards. Montana shot just 28 percent from the field (14-of-51), 28 percent from behind the arc (5-of-18) and 73 percent from the free-throw line (16-of-22).
"This was a really great game," said Head Coach Elaine Elliott. "It was nip and tuck the whole way and Montana was a good enough team, that they could have won the game as well. I was very pleased that we managed to make some plays in the last six minutes of the game to secure the win," said Elliott.
AFTER THIS: The Utes take on the Oregon Ducks on Sat., Dec. 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. On Mon., Dec. 18, Utah hits the road, facing the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis, Ore. at 7:05 p.m. (PST). The Utes are back at home on Thurs., Dec. 28, matching up with Southern Methodist at 7:00 p.m. Utah travels to Stanford, Calif. on Sat., Dec. 30, taking on the Stanford Cardinal at 2:00 p.m. (PST). After the first of the year, Utah is back at home, facing Loyola Marymount on Tues., Jan. 2, at 7:00 p.m. On Sun., Jan. 7, Utah opens MWC play in Albuquerque, N.M. (MST). The Utes will match-up with the Lobos at 12:00 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN2. Utah will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. facing the UNLV Rebels on Thurs., Jan. 11 at 7:35 p.m. (PST). On Sat., Jan. 13, the Utes will meet San Diego State at 7:00 p.m. (PST) in San Diego, Calif.
