SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's swimming and diving team had a great season breaking 13 school records. The Utes finished the season 4-6 and sixth in the Western Athletic Conference Championships with 290 points. It was Utah's best finish in the WAC since it expanded to 16 teams in 1996-97 The 1999 Utes broke every school relay record. Heike Kutz, Molly Lauber, Heidi Hausknecht and Amy Jacobson combined to set the 200 medley relay record (1:44.76). Kutz, Lauber Hausknecht and Lisbeth Jensen broke the 400 medley relay record (3:46.65). Lauber, Jensen, Hausknecht and Jacobson set the 200 free relay (1:35.02). Jensen, Annika Lundmark, Kutz and Blundell broke the 800 free relay record (7:40.40).
Jensen Hausknecht, Jacobson and Erin Blundell set the record in the 400 free relay (3:28.68). Hausknecht smashed three of Utah's individual events with top times in the 50 free (23.39), 100 free (51.44) and 100 butterfly (54.49). Her second-place finish in the 100 fly automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships. Lauber, set a new record in the 100 breast (1:03.13) and earned a B standard NCAA qualifying time. She will await the NCAA's ruling on her championship participation. Melissa Chamberlin set records in the 200 breast (2:19.77) and 400 IM (4:36.01). Kutz broke her own 100 backstroke record (57.43) and Crystal Gregory set the Utah record in the platform dive (500.35). Gregory automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform dives along with Erica Fleming who qualified for the 1 and 3-meter dives. The Utes are sending three automatic individual qualifiers. It is the most NCAA representation the women's team has earned in Ute swimming history.
