Alex Gerke returned to Utah Football in Spring 2026 as an offensive line assistant on Morgan Scalley’s staff. A familiar face in collegiate, professional and high school coaching circles, Gerke has four decades of experience on the sidelines.
Gerke previously was on staff at Utah as offensive tackles and tight ends coach during the 2001 and ’02 seasons. He also was a graduate assistant with the Utes from 1998-99.
He has also had stints at Hawaii, Cal Poly, Weber State and a variety of high school programs throughout Utah. In 1995, Gerke was a guest coach on the offensive line with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.
The native of Westminster, California, was a two-year starter on the offensive line at Golden West College in 1980 and ’81. He transferred to Utah in 1982 under head coach Chuck Stobart and was coached on the offensive line by Ron McBride.
