Utes recorded eighth sweep of the 2026 season over the Bears

GREELEY, Colo.– Utah Volleyball went a perfect 9-0 in three matches over the weekend at the UNC Invitational, after sweeping host Northern Colorado (25-21, 25-18, 25-16).

The Utes are undefeated in three-set matches in 2026 with an 8-0 record (8-3 overall) heading into Big 12 play next weekend.

Utah saved its best effort of the weekend for last, posting 50 kills, a .466 team hitting percentage, five aces, 15 total blocks and 31 digs.

SET ONE
The UNC Bears jumped out to a 6-3 advantage over the Utes to start set one. Utah took its first lead of the match, 8-7, but the Bears came roaring back on a 3-0 run to go up 10-8.

The Utes got within one again, 10-9, but UNC went on a 5-0 run to take 14-9 lead.

After a timeout, Utah settled in with back-to-back kills from Devyn Wiest and Kamryn Gibadlo along with a Wiest ace to make it 14-12.

Utah kept chipping away at the score, eventually taking a 22-19 lead highlighted by an ace from Isabella Mogridge.

Gibadlo hit a huge swing to get the Utes to set point, and later finished the job to take the set, 25-21.

SET TWO
Once again UNC jumped to a quick lead, 2-0, but Utah went back-to-back on kills from Princess Atamah and Loryn Helgesen to tie things up.

The Bears continued to keep a two-point lead, 6-4, but Helgesen landed a kill to make it 6-5. UNC remained relentless, building a lead 11-8.

Utah stayed in pursuit of the lead and tied the match at 12 and 13 after two Gibadlo kills near the halfway point.

Out of a timeout the Utes got hot going on 4-0 run highlighted by a pair of Atamah kills and one block to give Utah the lead, 18-15.

The Utes kept the pressure up on the Bears to pull away 21-16. Down the stretch a big block from Ashley West and Atamah gave Utah set point, and Levani Falatea sealed the deal off an ace, 25-18.

SET THREE
Utah took an early 3-1 lead over the Bears in set three. Katelynn Field sent a kill UNC's way while Mogridge made life tough for the Bears from the service line resulting in three straight attack errors, 11-6.

The Utes reached a 15-10 advantage off a Helgesen kill and continued building the lead off a bad set on the Bears and kill from Atamah, 17-10, forcing Northern Colorado to take its second timeout.

Utah stayed tough down the final stretch of set three, going up 21-14 off a West kill. Mogridge hit an ace quickly after, extending the Utes' advantage, 22-14.

A Bears service error set up match point and a play later Helgesen hit the match winning kill, 25-16.

Utah begins Big 12 play on the road at Colorado on Friday, Sep. 25 before heading home for its conference opener against Baylor on Sunday, Sep. 27.
