SALT LAKE CITY— The No. 12 Utah Gymnastics team closed out their 2026 home slate with a 197.650 victory over No. 24 BYU (196.550) and West Virginia (195.300), sending their four seniors--
Sarah Krump,
Ashley Glynn,
Ana Padurariu, and
Makenna Smith off with one final Huntsman Center win.
Â
"That is exactly what I would've wanted them to do tonight, just to enjoy their last night in the Huntsman and just compete with such confidence and celebrate all the work that they've done, said head coach
Carly Dockendorf. "Sometimes it's easy on Senior Night to try to be perfect, so you see some uncharacteristic things. For the most part, I really just saw them perform their gymnastics that we've all grown to love."
The Red Rocks wasted no time on Senior Day establishing a lead on vault going 49.500 as a team while BYU posted a 49.275 on beam, and West Virginia started with a 48.700 on bars.
Camie Winger set the tone going 9.875 in the leadoff with
Ella Zirbes drilling a 9.925 right after.
Zoe Johnson, Glynn, and
Avery Neff all went 9.90, while Smith added a 9.850 to the mix.
"You could feel it a lot from the team tonight, just genuine joy that we talked about a lot this week because senior week is sad and very emotional," said Glynn. "So, going out there and enjoying this last home meet for the team, and I think you could genuinely feel it. There weren't many waterworks tonight because we were just overwhelmed with joy and gratitude."
Utah rinsed and repeated on bars going 49.500 to give themselves a 99.000 advantage over BYU (98.375) and WVU (97.475) after the second rotation.
Â
Smith went 9.925 to get the Red Rocks going on bars followed by a 9.90 from Glynn.
Abbi Ryssman and Zirbes went back-to-back 9.85s, setting up a huge career-high 9.975 for Padurariu. Neff wrapped the event up for Utah with a 9.800 for good measure.
"We've been talking a lot this week about training like we want to compete and then competing like we train, and I felt like that was just another bar routine that I've done in the gym many times," said Padurariu. "My mindset going into starting to compete was to compete freely without any weight on my shoulders. It doesn't matter that it's the last one. It's just another routine. I'm very grateful that I was able to hit such a great routine and celebrate with all my teammates afterwards. It was a very special moment."
The Red Rocks kept things steady on beam going 49.150 to stay ahead of BYU (147.400) and the Mountaineers (146.350) with a 148.150 total score after three rounds.
Ryssman and Neff notched the highest scores for Utah with 9.875s, Winger posted a 9.85, and Padurariu added a 9.80 to send the Utes to their final rotation on floor.
"Carly told me before my beam routine to just enjoy it," said Krump. "I think what we all tried to emulate is that it may be our last routine here, but it's definitely not our last routine. We still have a lot of season ahead of us. I was really trying to focus on enjoying the moment, enjoying the crowd one last time, and just really being proud of what I put out there, regardless of what it was."
Utah finished strong on floor, posting their third 49.500 of the night to earn their second-highest score of the season, 197.650 to take the win over the Cougars (196.550) and Mountaineers (195.300).
Â
Krump gave the Red Rocks the start they needed on floor matching her career-high of 9.85 in her final performance at the Huntsman Center with Neff matching her efforts in the middle of the lineup. Zirbes added a 9.925 and
Sage Curtis a 9.90. Smith brought the power, energy, and emotion in her final floor routine at home matching her career-high of 9.975 to bring the house down.
"I was feeling a little nervous before my floor routine, knowing it was gonna be my last one, and I knew exactly what my reaction was gonna be at the end," said Smith. "Pumping up the crowd beforehand calmed me down, and it grounded me a bit. Then, when I landed my last pass, I could feel that it was one of the best routines I've done and hearing the crowd and seeing everybody else so excited, it was unreal."
Zirbes earned a career-high in the all-around to take the title with a 39.450 with Neff coming in second just behind her with a 39.425.
