IRVING, Texas – For the second time in three weeks, a member of the University of Utah softball team has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week and this time it's outfielder
Danika Wilson claiming the honor. Wilson was also named Softball America's Freshman Star of the Week.
Wilson had a red-hot week at the plate, going for 10-for-17 with hits in all six of Utah's games and crafting a 1.294 slugging percentage. The California native blasted four home runs, drove in 12 runs and scored seven times to help the Utes go 6-0 at the Beehive Classic.
She started the week by going 2-for-3 against Southern Utah, then drilled her first collegiate homer against Weber State. One day later, Wilson went deep again and she totaled four RBIs against Utah State on Saturday. Her best performance of the week came on Sunday, however, when she circled the bases twice and added four more RBIs to her stat line.
This makes two freshman of the week awards for Utah in 2026.
Mia Gomez earned the first one on Feb. 17.
