Utes Keep Win Streak Alive After Defeating Hawai'i 5-2

HONOLULU— The University of Utah women's tennis team traveled to Hawai'i this past weekend and battled for a 5-2 victory over the University of Hawai'i. The Utes are now 4-1 on the season.

DOUBLES
In doubles action, Hawai'i's Allaire Berl and Emma Forgac defeated Utah's Dylan Lolofie and Hayley Roberts, 6-2, at the No.3 spot to start the match. However, the Utes pushed on and forced the final two doubles matches into a tie break.

At the No. 1 spot, Utah's Emma Valletta and Emma Kamper faced Hawai'i's duo Grete Gull and Sophie Rachor, where the Utah pair took care of business and won in a 7-6 (7) fashion.

All eyes were on court No. 2 as Utah's Sara Akid and Emmie Moore faced Hawai'i's Makeilah Nepomuceno and Hannah Galindo for the doubles point decider. Akid and Moore clinched the doubles point for the Utes, 7-6(3), after pulling away in the tiebreak.

SINGLES
Utah's Kamper defeated UH's Gull, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot to kick off singles play. UH went on to pick up two points at the No. 5 and No. courts to tie the match at 2-2.

Utah's Kaila Barksdale faced Hawai'i's Forgac at the No. 3 spot. Barksdale won 6-4, 6-4 to give the Utes the edge over the Rainbow Wahine, 3-2.

At the No. 4 spot, Utah's Valletta battled against Rainbow UH's Rachor. After dropping the first set, 5-7, Valletta battled back and won the next two sets, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the overall match for the Utes.

With the match decided, play on the No. 2 court continued between Utah's Moore and Hawai'i's Nepomuceno. Nepomuceno won the first set, 3-6, but Moore fought back and won the next two sets, 6-2, 6-3, to win the match.

The Utes are now 4-1 on the season.

UP NEXT
The Utes will face two opponents on Valentine's weekend, the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, Feb. 14, and then the Denver Pioneers on Sunday, Feb. 15. All matches will be held at the George S. Tennis Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
