Utah Golf Jumps into Top 10 Final Day of John Burns

With Sergio Jimenez leading the charge, Utes move up three spots for a sixth-place finish
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:
Dates: Feb. 12-14
Location: Ocean Course at Hokuala | Lihue, Kaua'i
Par/Yardage: Par 70, 7,098 yards
LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Utah Golf made a strong push in the final day of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, jumping three spots from ninth-place in day two to a sixth-place overall finish (5-over 845).
Junior Sergio Jimenez proved invaluable to the Utes through all three days of the tournament, overcoming a rough front-nine in day three (2-over 37) to finish the final day even. Jimenez was Utah's highest overall finisher, tied for seventh, going 3-under 207 for the entire tournament.
Fellow junior Gabriel Palacios made tremendous strides in the final day of John Burns, jumping 37 spots for a tie at to No. 30, going 2-under 68 and 4-over 214 for all three days.
Mid-year transfer Jack Jerge proved to be a steady force for Utah through all three days of the tournament, finishing day three just behind Palacios, tied 38th with a 2-over 72 in the final day, and 5-over 215 for the entire tournament.
Rounding out Utah's scoring was senior Brandon Robison with a 3-under 67 for day three, tying him for 49th after finishing with a 7-over 217 and Davis Johnson, another senior, who ended the tournament 9-over 219 for a 58th place tie.
Freshman Jan Farre, tied for 79th in his collegiate debut, after finishing John Burns 12-over 222 as an individual.

On improving finish from Southwestern…
"Well, sixth place is not where we want to be and as a whole, it still wasn't a very good tournament for us, but day three was a much better day. It was nice to play a good final round and move up the leaderboard. This team has a lot of fire power, and we just need a few good rounds to get us going."
On Sergio Jimenez stepping up…
"Sergio is a great player, but got off to a rough start today, however, I am really proud how he battled back and was able to play a solid round of golf. In years past, that might have taken him out for the day, but he battled like crazy and that was great to see."
On Jack Jerge's steadying force…
"Jack's solid play has helped us a lot in these first two tournaments. He has been a huge mid-year addition for us, and we haven't had that type of play from a fifth-year player yet this year."
UP NEXT
The Utes will have a few weeks "off" before heading down to St. George for a day-match with Oregon State on March 2 before turning their attention to The Desimone from March 9-10 in Berkley, Calif. and then jumping across the country for The Schenkel from March 13-15 in Statesboro, Geor.
