MOUNTAIN WEST MAYHEM
Wednesday's match-up between the Runnin' Utes and Runnin' Rebels marks the 49th all-time meeting between the two storied programs unofficially. The two squads first became conference opponents during 1996-97 season before facing off as league opponents on Jan. 24, 1998, a 67-54 affair in favor of the Utes. Utah and UNLV then became charter members of the Mountain West Conference during the 1999-2000 season and battled for over a decade before the Utes joined the Pac-12 Conference in 2011.
Â
Utah head coach Alex Jensen went 3-2 all-time against UNLV as a player and 5-3 when playing in Las Vegas. The Runnin' Utes were 2-2 against the Runnin' Rebels in conference play while Jensen was a player going 1-1 in both the WAC and MWC.
