Davis extends pick-six streak as Utes build 36-point halftime lead on way to victory
Â
The Utes remain one of only three unbeaten teams remaining in the FBS at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Utah sits in first place in the Big 12 and is 8-0 for the first time since 2010. It's the sixth time in program history the Utes have won their first eight games.
Â
Cincinnati fell to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
Â
Utah raced to a 42-6 halftime advantage thanks to an offense that rolled up 328 total yards, including 193 on the ground, and a defense that turned two turnovers into touchdowns. The visitors averaged 9.4 yards per play in the opening half, including 10.2 yards per rush. The Utes ended the night with 534 yards of total offense, 268 yards rushing and an average of 7.3 yards per play.
Â
Dampier led Utah on first half scoring drives that covered 78, 75, 80 and 90 yards while completing 15-of-16 throws for 135 yards and two scores. By day's end, the senior had racked up 260 yards on 22-of-29 passing. He's thrown for three scores in three of Utah's last four games.
Â
Wayshawn Parker contributed 82 first half rushing yards and a score on his way to 99 total yards for the day. Daniel Bray added another 63 rushing yards in the opening half while running for one touchdown and catching another. It was the first multi-touchdown performance of Bray's career and he finished with 91 yards from scrimmage.
Â
Hunter Andrews led Utah's receiving corps, totaling a career-high 112 yards on five catches and two touchdowns. Braden Pegan added five receptions for 46 yards.Â
Â
On defense, Rabbit Evans scored his first Utah touchdown on a 51-yard fumble return in the second quarter and Elijah Davis tacked on a 39-yard pick-six just before halftime. Davis' runback extended Utah's run to 23 straight seasons with a pick-six, the longest active streak in the FBS. The Utes also limited Cincinnati to a single field goal on two red zone trips over the initial 30 minutes.
Â
The list of defensive standouts for the victors also included Kash Dillon, who set a career-high with seven tackles, and Nate Ritchie, who made seven stops as well. Elijah Reed contributed his first sack as a Ute, Karson Kaufusi picked up his third sack of the year and Jireh Moe and Elijah Elliss combined for another.
