Utes completed postponed round two, head into round three

SALT LAKE CITY– Utah Golf got Big 12 Match Play rolling on a soggy Monday, welcoming the conference into its backyard at The Country Club at Salt Lake City.

The Utes completed their first two rounds Tuesday morning after round two was cut short the day before due to light. Utah will have ground to make up starting in round three after suffering two losses in match play to BYU (2-3) and ASU (4.5-.5).

Seniors Jack Jerge (2UP and 3&1) and Gabriel Palacios (3&2) were the only two Utes to win a match with Jerge taking both round one and round two and Palacios taking round one.

Utah continues Big 12 Match Play with Iowa State to complete the Pool C circuit.

Match play is unlike the traditional stroke play that Utah will play most of the season. (Utah has already played one round of match play in 2026 at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup to open the season.)

Five golfers from each team compete head-to-head with opponents for the entirety of the course. The golfer who posts a lower score on each hole wins that matchup.

Golfers can lead by more holes than those remaining on the course and earn a victory without playing all 18 holes (3&2, 4&3, 5&4, etc.). In tighter matches, golfers can win by just one stroke requiring play on the final hole (1UP).

Whichever team totals the most individual wins in its specific matchup secures a win for the match and earns three points for a victory.
