Utes, former conference foe Bruins meet at the Rose Bowl in season opener
SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah football team is set to open its 2025 slate on Saturday at the Rose Bowl with a 9 p.m. MT kickoff against UCLA. The Utes and Bruins will meet for the 16th time in history.

 THE NUMBERS
• Head Coach Kyle Whittingham is set to coach in his 380th overall game at Utah and his 254th as head coach on Saturday.
• Whittingham is 9-5 vs. UCLA in his tenure with the Utes and is responsible for all of Utah's wins vs. the Bruins in program history.
• Utah has won six of the last seven and seven of the last nine matchups against UCLA, including three of the last four at the Rose Bowl.
• With a win, Utah will have 262 victories on the road all-time (current record is 261-267-12).
 UTAH FOOTBALL: NEED TO KNOWS
• New Utah offensive coordinator Jason Beck is set to make his debut with the Utes on Saturday after spending the 2024 season at New Mexico. The Lobos offense ranked first in the Mountain West in total and red zone offense, and fourth in the FBS with 484.3 yards per game a year ago.
• Starting quarterback Devon Dampier came to Utah with Beck after ranking No. 1 in the league and No. 12 in the FBS in points responsible for (188) while finishing second in the Mountain West in total passing yards (2,768).
• Utah has won nine of its last 10 season openers with the lone loss coming in a 29-26 defeat in The Swamp against Florida on Sept. 3, 2022.
• Saturday will be just the third time since 2008 Utah has opened the season away from Salt Lake City (2019 at BYU, 2022 at Florida).
 THE LEADERS
Utah team captains and the leadership council are voted on by the team during fall camp. The Utes picked two offensive and two defensive captains, along with a 12-person leadership council.
• Lander Barton (LB), Logan Fano (DE), Spencer Fano (OL) and Jaren Kump (OL) were voted as captains.
• Utah's leadership council includes Barton, L. Fano, S. Fano, Kump, Devon Dampier (QB), Levani Damuni (LB), Tao Johnson (S), Caleb Lomu (OL), Michael Mokofisi (OL), Nate Ritchie (S), Smith Snowden (CB) and Aliki Vimahi (DT).
