SALT LAKE CITY — The fourth-ranked Red Rocks are heading to Fort Worth, Texas in two weeks after clinching their 49
th consecutive appearance in the NCAA National Championship in dramatic fashion during the Regional Final, Saturday night at the Huntsman Center.

Utah spent half the meet in third place before surging ahead to first place in the third rotation, eventually earning the winning score of 197.825 to advance along with second-place UCLA, who earned a 197.625.

"Well, 49 years straight, I guess we can officially say that now, so its pretty exciting for us," said head coach
Carly Dockendorf. "Firstly, a big congratulations to all of the teams that were here this weekend. That was a competitive Regional, like always, and I also want to thank our fans because they showed up tonight, and they brought the extra energy that we needed."
The Red Rocks got off to a nice start on bars posting a team score of 49.425, that put them in third place behind Denver (49.550), and UCLA (49.450), while Minnesota finished the first rotation in fourth place (49.125).

Makenna Smith got the ball rolling with a 9.80,
Amelie Morgan a 9.85, and
Ella Zirbes a 9.875.
Ashley Glynn added some punch with a 9.90, and
Grace McCallum put the exclamation mark on the event with her second 10.0 on bars in a row.
Utah went 49.400 on beam for a 98.825 total score to keep them in third place after rotation two. The Pioneers remained in first with a 99.050, the Bruins stayed in second with a 98.925, and the Gophers held firm at fourth with a 98.300.

Morgan got the Red Rocks off to a good start with a 9.875, while Anna Padurariu posted a 9.80. Smith added another 9.875, as Neff put up a 9.90, and McCallum posted the event high of 9.95.

Momentum drastically shifted to the Red Rocks in the third rotation as they rocketed to first place after a monster effort on floor gave them a 49.625 (a season-high), bringing them to a total score of 148.450. UCLA remained in second place (148.200), Denver fell to third (147.950), and Minnesota stayed firmly in fourth (147.425).

Glynn and Zirbes started things off right for Utah with a pair of 9.85s before Neff turned up the heat with a season/career-high score of 9.925. Gilstrap tied her career-high of 9.95, Smith added another 9.925, and McCallum brought the house down with a 9.975.
With the race to Fort Worth, Texas in two weeks coming down to the wire, Utah handled its business on vault in final rotation, earning a 49.375 to cement first place in the Regional Final and its 49
th consecutive appearance in the NCAA National Championship.

McCallum and Smith gave the Red Rocks a good foundation with a pair of 9.80s, while Zirbes and Neff added a pair of 9.85s. Glynn stuck a 9.925, and freshman
Zoe Johnson came in clutch with a season/career-high 9.95 to seal the deal.

"Regionals is always an exciting event," said Dockendorf. "It's unpredictable, and the best teams are able to adapt and adjust, and move forward. This group came in tonight with a goal, and vision of what we were going to do, and at no point did we ever lose that vision, and that goal. We just fought all the way to the end."
