SAN DIEGO - The No. 55 University of Utah men's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 45 UC Santa Barbara in the Ed Collins Classic semifinal on Saturday afternoon. With the result, Utah moves to 9-5 overall while remaining 1-0 in Big 12 play.
Utah picked up a strong win at No. 3 doubles, where
Nicolas Calixto and
Emmett Potter delivered a commanding 6-2 victory over Conrad Brown and Charlie Underwood. Despite the effort, the doubles point went to UCSB after close matches at the top two spots.
Berk Bugarikj continued his strong play at No. 1, securing a straight-set victory over Gianluca Brunkow, 6-2, 6-4, to put Utah on the board. However, the Gauchos clinched the match victory with wins on courts two, six, and four.
Meanwhile, Dante Teramo and Max Relic were locked in tight battles when play was called, with Teramo heading into a deciding third set at No. 3 (5-7, 6-4, 1-1) and Relic leading 3-0 in the third set at No. 5.
UP NEXT
The Utes will next head to Lubbock for a conference match against Texas Tech on March 13, before heading to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State on March 15.
