Utah Takes Third in Ed Collins Classic with 4-3 win over ODU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Utah men's tennis team battled in a tight 4-3 match and came away with the victory claiming third place in the Ed Collins Classic.
Utah is now 10-5 overall on the season and remain 1-0 in Big 12 play.
DOUBLES
Old Dominion claimed the doubles point by picking up wins at the No. 1 court and No. 3 court. Berk Bugarikj and Max Relix were up 5-4 in their match before it went unfinished.
SINGLES
Utah started singles with a win at the No. 1 spot where Bugarikj defeated Connor van Schalkwyk 6-3, 6-1. ODU then picked up wins at the No. 5 spot and the No. 3 spot to take a 3-1 edge over Utah.
Emmett Potter was the next Ute to finish, coming away with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jean-Karim Oliver de Sardan at the No. 4 spot. Charles Frey battled back after a 3-6 loss in the first set to win the second set 6-4 and the third set 6-1 at the No. 6 spot over Thomas Nelson. Frey's win tied the overall match up at 3-3.
The match came down to the No. 2 court where Reid Jarvis fought through three sets to clinch. Jarvis defeated Adam Majchrzak 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-3 to give Utah the 4-3 win.
UP NEXT
The Utes will continue Big 12 action in Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech March 14 before heading to Stillwater, Okla. to take on Oklahoma State March 15.
