SALT LAKE CITY – In its first overtime session of the season, the University of Utah lacrosse team went down in a heartbreaking fashion, after a close match vs. the Marquette University Golden Eagles, falling 12-11 during sudden-death at Ute Field on Saturday afternoon.
This is the sixth game this season that the Utes put themselves on the board first and the first-time junior
Ryan Stines is the player to accomplish this feat. Utah ended the first quarter with a 4-1 lead, but that would be the last time either side would see a surplus going in to a new quarter. After a back-and-forth match, Stines tied up the game for the final time, forcing the Golden Eagles in to over time sitting at 11-11.
GAME LEADERS
Freshman
Chase Robertson clocked his first collegiate hat trick, scoring three goals to lead Utah's eight scorers. Stines scored two goals, marking the only other Utah player to tally multiple scores, but with two assists, the junior tied Robertson with four points. Sophomore
Cade Faulkner tallied seven shots, sitting just behind Stines at eight, but was only able to put one in goal.
Defensively,
Dallin Tanner led the twelve Utes who earned a groundball, snagging three of his own. Only three Utah players were able to cause a turnover, with
Marco Pascarella and
Mikey Crane each forcing two and
Dallin Tanner picking up one. Three Utes participated in the 26 face-off attempts,
Bryce Madden participating in the most with 16. In the net, Collin Lenskold marked his seventh start this season, saving 17 of Marquette's attempts.
