LUBBOCK, Texas – The Utah women's basketball team battled in a 70-64 victory over Texas Tech Wednesday evening.
Utah was led by two season high performances in Jenna Johnson's 20 points and Kennady McQueen's 18 points. Mayé Touré grabbed her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Utah now has a 17-5 overall record on the season and now sit at 8-3 in BIg 12 play.
GAME SUMMARY
Late in the first quarter, Texas Tech surged for a 10-0 run to take a 15-10 lead over Utah. During that time Texas Tech held Utah scoreless for over three minutes. Utah was able to break the drought thanks to a made layup from Reese Ross but the Utes still trailed 17-15 at the end of the first quarter.
Texas Tech pushed out for an eight point lead early in the second quarter but Utah slowly chipped away to take a one point lead with just under one minute remaining in the first half. The Lady Raiders hit a three to end the half to take a 33-31 lead over the Utes.
Utah found its spark in the second half by coming out of the break on a 12-2 run. Of those 12 points, Jenna Johnson had seven of them including one made from deep. Johnson and Kennady McQueen were the only Utes to score in the third quarter but the two combined for 23 points. McQueen went 3-of-3 from beyond the arc in the third quarter to help Utah take a 54-50 lead going into the final quarter of play.
Texas Tech tied the game with 6:30 remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter. Utah then scored on two consecutive possessions to take a four-point lead. The Utes never lost the lead the rest of the game and pushed out for a 70-64 victory.
LEADERS
Utah had three players score in double figures and were led by Jenna Johnson's season-high 20 points. Johnson went 9-of-12 from the field and put up 12 points in the third quarter. Kennady McQueen boasted a new season-high with 18 points including four made from beyond the arc and 11 points made in the third quarter.
Mayé Touré had her second double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Touré and
Inês Vieira each had three steals to help Utah's defensive efforts.
Gianna Kneepkens led the Utes with five assists.
COMPARISON
Utah shot 53.1% from the field while Texas Tech shot 49.0% from the field. Utah went 42.9% from deep making 9-of-21 while Texas Tech went 52.9% shooting 9-of-17. The Utes went 9-of-14 from the free throw line for 64.3% while the Lady Raiders went 7-of-15 for 46.7%.
Utah had 13 assists on 26 made field goals while Texas Tech had 14 assists on 24 made field goals. The Utes outrebounded the Lady Raiders 33-20.

Utah will return home for two straight home games. First, the Utes will host UCF Saturday, Feb. 8 before welcoming back the Colorado Buffs on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Utah will then hit the road to Arizona State Feb. 15.
