Utah Falls 70-52 to BYU in Big 12 Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Despite a second quarter surge, Utah women's basketball team couldn't pull out the victory in the Big 12 Tournament and fell to BYU 70-52.
Utah is 19-12 overall on the season. The Utes were led by senior Lani White's 20 points.
GAME SUMMARY
Lani White started the game knocking down one from beyond the arc to put the Utes on the board first. BYU then went on a 7-0 run to spark some momentum. Utah was able to keep the score within one point until BYU hit back-to-back threes that propelled them to a 22-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Utah had a big second quarter thanks to a 17-2 run led by nine points from Lani White. The Utes were able to take back the lead and outscore the Cougars 19-5 to claim a 36-27 lead at the halftime break.
BYU came out of the halftime break firing and ended the third quarter on a 15-0 run and held Utah to a three minute scoring drought while forcing the Utes into seven turnovers. The Cougars took back the lead and held the Utes to just seven points in the third quarter. Utah trailed 51-43 going into the final quarter of play.
The Cougars maintained the momentum the rest of the game and downed the Utes for the third time this season with a final score of 70-52.
LEADERS
Utah had just one Ute score in double figures and were led by senior Lani White's 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Maty Wilke added eight points for Utah while Chyra Evans added six.
Evans also led the team in rebounding with eight in the game. LA Sneed led the Utes with five assists.
COMPARISON
Utah shot 37.0% from the field while BYU shot 36.7%. Utah went 25.9% from three knocking down 7-of-27 while BYU shot 36.7% going 11-of-30. At the free-throw line, Utah shot 50.0% going 5-of-10 while BYU also shot 78.9% converting 15-of-19.
Utah had 11 assists on 20 made field goals while BYU had eight assists on 22 made field goals. The BYU barely outrebounded Utah 35-34.
