AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Utah diving program wrapped competition with men's and women's platform on the final day of the Texas Diving Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on Saturday.
Senior
Kathryn Grant logged her third top-five finish of the weekend, placing fifth overall, while
Callie Eaglestone placed ninth in the women's finals to lead the way for head diving coach
Richard Marschner's program.
"We got exactly what we needed out of this meet as different divers needed to accomplish different things to help progress for the end of the year," Marschner said.
Grant averaged 49.86 points across her five dives en route to a 249.30 in her first platform competition of the season, matching her fifth-place result from NCAA Zones last spring. The senior was the only woman in the field this week to log top-five finishes on the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform.
"Kat showed why she's one of the nation's top three-event divers as she was the only woman to place in the top five on all three events," Marschner said. "It was great to hear an opposing coach tell me that 'she's diving like a senior' – meaning she is composed and consistent in her competition."
Eaglestone logged her best finish of the weekend with a 200.35 list score, which marked her highest finish in finals since placing third on platform at last season's Big 12 Championships.
Annalise Shrader (157.30) and
Cierra Cole (142.65) also competed in their first collegiate platform event.
On the men's side,
Attila Bernatsky led the way for the Utes with a 280.70 list score, finishing in 13th place, followed just behind by
Elias Petersen in 15th with a 270.50.
Alex Just placed 17th with a 263.70.
"I like what this meet did for us and it sets us up well to excel at Princeton in a few weeks," Marschner concluded.
Looking Ahead
Utah swimming will get in the water in a different part of Texas this week when the SMU Invitational starts in Dallas on Wednesday, Nov. 19. Ute divers return to action on Thursday, Dec. 4, for the first day of the Big Al Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
