HEAR FROM THE UTES
Head Coach Gavin Petersen
Overall Statement . . .
"Rough night for us offensively. Defensively there were times we were on the same page and other times we were not. Sometimes that's the lesson to be learned. You can't think that just because you're at home that things are going to fall your way. It's a grind every single night out and when you're playing the No. 12 ranked team in the country with that much experience you have to be on your game. I didn't see the fire and hunger in their eyes tonight. There was just something missing. We as a coaching staff are going to quickly get our players back to playing Utah basketball."
On the team's process throughout the game . . .
"I kept pleading with the team to just focus on the next possession. They did that in the first half. We slowly chipped away and went into the halftime break trailing by nine. In the third quarter we couldn't get anything going offensively and we just couldn't recover from that big of a gap."
Reese Ross, sophomore, forward
On her effort against K-State . . .
"Win or lose it's about what you can control. One of those things you can control is effort. Being able to go into the game and give it my all was important. You only get 40 minutes and you have to take each minute and each possession to do your best to compete. We talk a lot about that as a team so I just tried to come out and compete to the best of my ability."
On what the team can takeaway . . .
"No body likes losing, especially at home. We can look at it as a wake up call and we can learn from it. There's a lot to take away from this game both good and bad. We're going to reevaluate and watch some film, debrief, and see what we can do better. This isn't the only time we could potentially see this team. We are preparing for our next game but also looking forward towards March. We just have to take it day-by-day and game-by-game. It's a process."
