Aquatic Utes are coming off a five-win weekend
SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah swim program is hosting the University of Denver for a dual meet on Friday in the Ute Natatorium, as the dive team travels to the University of California, Berkeley for the Cal Diving Invite starting Thursday.
On the men's side, this will be the third matchup between Utah and Denver ever and the first since January of 2020. The last time these programs met in the pool was Jan. 18, 2020 at Ute Natatorium and Denver came out on top. The current historical record is 1-1, with the Utes beating Denver 173.5-126.5 in 2018 at Denver's home pool.
For the women, they currently hold a 2-0 record with Denver's women's team-- winning both the meet in 2020 and the meet in 2018.
"Both teams are excited to race on Friday," said head coach Jonas Persson. "We haven't swam Denver in a while, so it will be fun to get up and race them again. I'm looking forward to our team members stepping up and swimming good times, so that they can prepare themselves even further for upcoming meets."
Previously in the pool

Dive In Two Big 12
Elias Petersen and Holly Waxman were announced as the Big 12 Divers of the Week after their performances at the Utah Diving Invite. This is the second time each of these Utes have been recognized and the fourth and fifth time Utah's divers have earned this award.
Utes and Gauchos and Bruins, Oh My!
Utah reached new heights after beating the UCLA Bruins and UCSB Gauchos for the first time in program history. Before this season, UCLA held a four-year winning streak against the Utes. This year, the female Utes put an end it, 158-142. As for the Gauchos, our men's team visited Santa Barbara, Calif. in 2019 and it fell in UCSB's favor. This year, both the men and women earned a success, with the men finishing 182.5-79.5 and the women totaling 209 to their 91.
Waxman's a Winner
Holly Waxman earned her first Big 12 weekly award after smashing the Auburn Diving Invite. Winning the prelims on both springboards but earning two silver medals and a top-12 spot in the platform finals, Waxman stood out. Beating competitors from Florida State, George Washington and Tennessee, she was the sole owner of the highest 12-dive list on both springboard events.
Callie Calls for Celebration
After her performance at the Texas Diving Invitational, the freshman was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. In her first career invitational, the United Kingdom native earned a place in the 1m final competition, beating out competition from Texas, Stanford, Texas A&M and TCU for a top-12 finish. Her efforts added 12 points to the women's overall score, helping push them into a second-place finish.
Elias Tops Big 12
Petersen earned the first Big 12 weekly award for the swim and dive program after the junior's showing at the home opener against UNLV. Scoring 393.15 on just three dives, the Malmo, Sweden native easily topped the 1m event and came within one point of the school record on the same event. He followed that with a second victory on 3m, earning 376.73.
Lambert Lights Up
During midseason, freshman Jones Lambert scratched his name into the Utah top-10 times record book with three different races. Finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle, fifth in the 200-free and fourth in the 1650-free, Lambert was the second-highest point-earner on Utah, accumulating 46 points.
Looking Ahead
The swimmers and divers will take on Southern Methodist University in Dallas Jan. 24-15.
