SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 6 seeded Utah women's basketball team will head to Las Vegas to take on the No. 11 Seeded Arizona State Sun Devils in the opening round of the Pac-12 Tournament.

OPENING TIP
The Utes have posted a 21-9 record overall on the season and are 11-7 in the Pac-12 this season. This will be the second match up with Arizona State this season as Utah picked up an 58-41 win over the Sun Devils back on Jan. 7. This will be the second time Utah and ASU has matched up in the Pac-12 Tournament. The last meeting was in 2017 when ASU defeated the Utes 72-54.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah fell to Washington 62-47 in the final regular season game of the season. Kennady McQueen hit her 200th career three in the first quarter. The Utes were led by Matyson Wilke who had 17 points to tie her career high for the second time this season.
THE UTES
Utah returned all of last year's starting five including All-American and Pac-12 Player of the Year,
Alissa Pili, as well as All-American
Gianna Kneepkens.Utah also brought back starters,
Jenna Johnson,
Kennady McQueen and
Isabel Palmer. Other key players returning are
Ines Vieira,
Lani White and
Dasia Young. Utah welcomed three transfers in
Matyson Wilke,
Alyssa Blanck and
Samantha Crispe as well as two true freshmen
Daniela Falcon Hernandez and
Reese Ross to this year's squad.
The Utes lost Kneepkens after a season ending foot injury that occurred against BYU (Dec. 2).
PILI POWER
Pili currently leads Utah averaging 21.0 points per game. She's posted a career-high 37 points twice this season both against Top 10 teams.
She was named to the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20. She earned Preseason AP All-American Honorable Mention as well as being named as a Katrina McClain Midseason Top 10 Candidate. She was also named to the midseason team for the Naismith Trophy and the preseason watchlist for the WBCA Wade Trophy. She was named to the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Year Watchlist. Pili was placed No. 4 on the most recent ESPN Top 25 Women's Basketball Players list.
She has posted four games this season scoring 30 or more points and 16 games recording 20 or more points. She's currently shooting 55.0 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from the three and 81.9 percent from the free throw line.
Pili's career-high 37 points against No. 1 South Carolina (Dec. 10) earned her ESPN, AP and USBWA Player of the Week. She also earned Pac-12 Player of the Week.
IN THE RANKS
Utah is ranked No. 22 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. Utah has been ranked in the Top 25 for 17 consecutive weeks. Utah is No. 9 in the NCAA Net Rankings. Utah is one of six Pac-12 schools currently in the Top 25.
Utah was ranked No. 5 in the AP Top 25 Preseason Poll. This was the highest preseason ranking for Utah in school history and the first time the Utes have been ranked to start a season since 2005.
UTAH IN THE PAC-12 TOURNAMENT
The 2023-24 season is the Utes' 12th Pac-12 Tournament. The first appearance for the Utes was the 2012 season. This also marks the final Pac-12 Tournament appearance for Utah.
Utah holds a 6-12 all-time record in the Pac-12 Tournament. The first win for the Utes in the Pac-12 Tournament came during the 2013 season where Utah defeated Arizona 66-48. The Utes entered the Pac-12 tournament this season as the six seed, which is the second highest seeding and the fourth time it's happened. Utah has only made the semifinals and championship game one time in history in 2022.
HEAD COACH LYNNE ROBERTS
Roberts is in her ninth season at the helm of the Utes. She has posted a 160-113 record in her time at Utah. She was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2023 after leading the team to its first ever Pac-12 regular season title. She led Utah to its second ever Sweet 16 appearance. Roberts also led the Utes to its highest AP Rankings in school history, including 12 weeks in the Top 10.
SCOUTING ARIZONA STATE
The Arizona State Sun Devils have an 11-19 overall record and are 3-15 in Pac-12 action. The Sun Devils are coming off a 70-55 loss to USC.
ASU has two Sun Devils averaging double figures and are led by Jalyn Brown who averages 17.4 points per game. Trayanna Crisp also averages double figures putting up 11.8 per game.
Utah is on a five-game win streak in the series and has a 1-2 record against ASU at a neutral location. The last time the two teams met up was Jan. 5, 2024 where Utah downed ASU 58-41.
ASU is led by head coach Natasha Adair who is in her second season. She has a 19-39 record at the helm of the Sun Devils.
