SEATTLE –
Erin Vringer,
Morgan Jensen and
McKaylie Caesar opened day one of the Husky Classic inside Dempsey Indoor with a bang Friday evening, registering a trio of top-10 marks for Utah track & field.
Â
In the final race of the day, Vringer bided her time as she toed the line in her first collegiate indoor race. The Canadian slowly moved her way up the pack as the race went on and crept closer and closer with a couple laps to go. Her patience paid off as she made her move with about 650m remaining and never looked back to win her section with a mark of 9:06.46 – which gives her the third-fastest 3000m mark at Utah.
Â
Lindsey Peters also saw action in the same section as Vringer, finishing with a mark of 9:30.88 – which wound up being the second fastest mark for the Utes in that event overall.
Â
Earlier in the day,
Emily Martin kicked off the weekend for Utah running in the 200m dash. The sophomore finished with a time of 24.89 for fifth-overall – which would've been the ninth-fastest time at Utah but Martin's current personal best stands at 24.46 (aa).
Â
Running in the same heat just before Vringer and Peters, Jensen and Caesar pushed one another down to the end before Jensen pulled away for the fourth-fastest 5000m mark in program history (15:59.42). Caesar followed shortly thereafter and crossed the finish line at 16:27.34 – which was good for the eighth-fastest time at Utah.
Saydi Anderson also ran in the event for the first time as a Ute, registering a time of 17:08.26.
Â
In the opening heats of the 3000m race,
Vero Boire was first of three Utes to cross the finish line checking in at 9:36.03.
Ellie Lundgreen had a solid start to the weekend, posting a new personal best mark of 9:37.38.
Maddie Reed also bested her previous 3000m mark for a new PR when she finished at 9:49.61.
Â
The Women of Utah wrap up their time in the Emerald City on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Husky Classic.
Emily Martin will once again get things going for the Utes inside Dempsey Indoor, this time in the 400m event.
