ALBUQUERQUE – The Utah track & field team had a solid return to the oval this Saturday as it saw four new entries in the all-time record book led by
Josefine Eriksen's record-breaking run in the 400m at the MLK Invitational held in the ABQ Convention Center.
In the 200m dash (unseeded),
Bailey Kealamakia saw herself move up to third on the all-time list with a run of 23.30 (aa) to win her heat and take second-overall as well as pass teammate
Emily Martin (24.46 aa) – who set her mark last season. Meanwhile,
Megan Rose saw herself inserted into the record books with a PR run of 24.89 (aa) to sit at No. 9 on the all-time list.
Ally Gomm won her heat with a mark of 25.14 (aa) in her first 200m race while
Harley Daniel posted a new PR mark of 25.17 (aa).
Chloe Shewell and
Malia Overton rounded out the group of Utes in the 200m race with times of 25.71 (aa) and 25.86 (aa).
Newcomer
Chloe Taylor made her debut as a Ute in the 600m race and took fifth-overall with a run of 1:34.13.
Millie Wilcox was not far off, checking in with a PR mark of 1:34.51 for seventh while
Annie Murdock clocked in with a time of 1:35.26 for eighth.
Over in the 60m hurdles preliminaries, Daniel had the best run among the quartet of Utes with a time of 8.67 (aa).
Bailey Kealamakia was the next fastest runner for Utah checking in at 9.10 (aa) while
Glo Hussey registered a time of 9.23 (aa).
Rachel Bair set a new PR for herself in her first non-pentathlon race, posting a time of 9.63 (aa).
Overton won her heat in the 60m dash thanks to a PR run of 7.85 (aa) while freshman
J'neya Hill also posted a PR mark of 7.87 (aa) to take second in her heat. Shewell closed out the group of Utes in the 60m dash with a time of 7.93 (aa). In the invitational portion of the 60m dash, Rose was just shy of breaking her PR and move up the all-time leaderboard with a mark of 7.57 (aa).
Madi Durrant made her collegiate debut in the 300m dash and finished with a team-best 41.07 while Hill was right behind her at 41.27. Bair won her heat in the event after posting a time of 41.40 with Hussey checking in with a time of 44.09.
Earlier in the high jump event, Hussey recorded a best jump of 1.57m (5-1.75) in her third try.
Delaney Gates led a trio of Utes in the long jump with a PR leap of 5.45m (17-10.75) in her second attempt. Bair had the next longest mark for Utah, checking in at 5.26m (17-3.25) on her third attempt.
Shana Van Elderen made her indoor debut, recording a distance of 5.12m (16-9.75).
Utah's 4x400m relay squad of Taylor, Eriksen, Kealamakia and Daniel teamed up to run a time of 3:39.37 (aa) – which wound up being the second-fastest time in school history. Meanwhile, Utah's "B" squad of Gomm, Durrant, Murdock and Wilcox clocked in with a mark of 3:50.86.
Back in Utah at the Wildcat Indoor Invitational,
Saydi Anderson crushed her previous PR in the mile with a run of 5:22.68 (aa).
UP NEXT
The Utes will get a few days off after returning from ABQ before heading to the PNW for the first of three trips to the Evergreen State with the UW Invitational (Jan. 26-27) kicking things off inside Dempsey Indoor.
