SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah lacrosse team travels to Jacksonville on Saturday, Feb. 29, facing the Dolphins at 1:00 p.m. MT (3:00 p.m. ET).
The game will be aired on a tape-delay broadcast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. MT. An
internet radio broadcast is available through Jacksonville.
Utah evened its record to 2-2 last weekend after a win over Furman, rallying from a two-goal deficit at halftime to win 17-9.
The Utes rank second in the nation in total attendance (7,350) and average attendance (2,450) behind lacrosse power Syracuse.
Colin Burke's 12 assists is tied for fifth in Division I and tied for sixth in assists per game (3.00). His 21 total points (9G, 12A) is 10
th in the NCAA.
"We're 2-2, we've beaten two teams that we should have beaten and lost to two teams that have been ranked among the country's top teams," Utah head coach
Brian Holman said. "Now it's back to square one again. Can we take that next step? We want to beat those top teams, but we want to compete for a whole game in that environment. We've shown bits and spurts against Lehigh and Air Force, now can we play 60 minutes of Utah lacrosse at another gear? That's what I'm really looking for, is the sustained level of play, like what we had the second half of the Furman game."
Utah meets Jacksonville for the first time. The Dolphins are 2-1 overall, defeating Marquette and Robert Morris and falling in a one-goal game to Detroit Mercy.
"Jacksonville is a step up this week," Holman said. "It's a great opponent because they are very athletic, they play really fast-paced, up-tempo lacrosse, which is something we like. They have several juniors and seniors playing so they are an experienced team. It's going to be a good challenge. Can we put together a complete game to beat one of those teams?"
The Utes have two players from Florida,
MJ McMahon (Sarasota) and
Jake Kiefer (Orlando).
