Women's Tennis Falls Short Against Loyola Marymount

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Utah women's tennis team fell to Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon to wrap up their road trip. The Utes dropped the match 4-2 at the LMU Tennis Center.

Loyola Marymount recorded wins at the No. 2 and No. 6 positions to take the lead over Utah, 2-1. Emily Dush then evened the match with a win on court four. Dush defeated Katerina Filip with a score of 7-5, 6-2 in the first Ute singles win.
LMU then clinched the win against the Utes with wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots to end the match with a 4-2 victory.

The Utah women's tennis team will be back in action next week for two home matches at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City. The Utes will first face off against in-state foe Utah State at 1 p.m. MT on Saturday, Feb. 22, followed by a match against Denver at 11 a.m. MT on Sunday, Feb. 23.

"Some tough lessons learned today. In several key situations we just didn't execute like we have been practicing and it proved to be the difference," said head coach Ric Mortera. "We will look to get these adjustments made as we prepare for the upcoming week."
Utah's doubles teams earned the quick lead over LMU with a pair of wins on courts one and three. The duo of Anya Lamoreaux and Lindsay Hung picked up the first win after topping Siobhan Anderson and Lillian Gabrielsen 6-3. To remain undefeated this season and improve their record to 8-0, the No. 19-ranked doubles team of Madison Tattini and Whitney Hekking then sealed the doubles point for the Utes as they bested Vero Miroshnichenko and Katerina Filip with a score of 6-3.Â
