Men's Tennis Upsets No. 12 Stanford on Senior Day

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team was able to defeat 12th ranked Stanford earlier today, with a final score of 4-2. With this win, the Utes will now move to an overall record of 16-8, with a record of 2-4 in Pac-12 conference play. Today was also senior day for the Utes, where the collegiate careers of Dan Little, Joe Woolley and David Micevski were celebrated.
"What an unbelievable way to finish the home season and honor our three seniors," said head coach Roeland Brateanu. "To come out here and beat sixteen-time national champion Stanford, what a great way to end their careers. We're looking forward to next week, another battle."
The Utes were able to obtain the early lead over the Cardinal by earning the doubles point. Slava Shainyan and David Micevski got things rolling on court No. 1, as they were able to defeat Barber and Genesen with a score of 6-3. Stanford then tied things up with a win at the No. 2 spot, but Joe Woolley and Russell Benkaim were then able to seal the point at the No. 3 position, defeating Rotsaert and Sah in a competitive match, with a score of 7-6.
In singles, 54th ranked Little was able to upset 47th ranked Alexandre Rotsaert on court No. 1, with a dominiating 6-3, 6-2 victory.  Micevski then followed with a win at the No. 2 position, defeating No. 110 William Genesen with a final score of 6-4, 6-2. To then complete the upset over Stanford, Benkaim carded the final win needed for the Utes at the No. 4 spot, topping Michael Genender with a final score of 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
The University of Utah men's tennis team will be back in action next week, as they will make a road trip to finish up Pac-12 conference play and wrap-up the regular season. Their first match will be on Friday, April 12th, as they will take on the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, with competition set to start at 3 p.m. MT that day. They will then finish out regular-season play with a match against Arizona State University on Saturday, April 13th, in Tempe, Arizona, with competition set to start a 2 p.m. MT.
