Men's Tennis Falls 4-0 to North Carolina at ITA Kickoff Weekend

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In their second road match of the season, the University of Utah men's tennis team was unable to come away with a victory against No. 6 ranked North Carolina, dropping the match 4-0, in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Utes have now moved to 2-2 overall on the season.
"I thought our guys fought their hearts out today and played well overall against a very good UNC team," said head coach Roeland Brateanu.
In doubles, on the No. 2 court, David Micevski and Slava Shainyan were edged out by Benjamin Sigouin and Brian Cernoch with a score of 6-3. Then at the No. 1 position, Randy Cory and Russell Benkaim fell short in a competitive match to William Blumberg and Blaine Boyden, with a score of 6-4, giving the Tarheels the doubles point.
Then, on the No. 4 court in singles, Cory was unable to come away with a win against Blaine Boyden, with a final score of 6-2, 6-4. At the No. 5 spot, Bekaim fell short against Simon Soendergaard, 6-3, 6-4, to give North Carolina a 3-0 lead. Then, at the No. 1 position, Dan Little was topped in a back-and-forth match against Benjamin Sigouin, 6-4, 7-5, to give North Carolina the 4-0 win.
The University of Utah men's tennis team will be back in action tomorrow to wrap-up the ITA Kickoff Weekend, as they will take on Middle Tennessee State at 1:30 p.m. MT. In their first round of competition, Middle Tennessee dropped their match against No. 30 Duke, with a score of 4-0.
