SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis team is set to host in-state foes Utah State and Southern Utah on Saturday, Jan. 19 for "Meet The Utes" day in the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
The match against Utah State will begin at 12 p.m. MT and then the Utes will face off against Southern Utah at 6 p.m. MT. Admission to both events will be free.
The matches will be streamed on UtahUtes.com with a full recap against Utah State and Southern Utah being available following the completion of competition. Fans can also follow along with the action on Twitter (@UteWomensTennis) and Instagram (@UtahWomensTennis).
The Utes and Southern Utah haven't faced off since 2007, when Utah shutout the Thunderbirds 7-0. Utah took down Utah State last season, 7-0 that included big wins from returners
Brianna Chisholm,
Taylor Calton and
Whitney Hekking.
Despite the 4-0 loss against Texas A&M to open the season this past week, the Utes got to welcome several new faces to their line-up with freshmen
Madison Tattini (No. 2 position),
Lindsay Hung (No. 3 position) and
Emily Dush (No. 4 position) all seeing action in a Utah uniform for the first time.
Dush, a four-star recruit, and Hung and Tattini, who are both five-star recruits, join
Anya Lamoreaux (four-star) as the newcomers on this year's team. Also joining the newcomers this past week was redshirt sophomore
Leah Heimuli, who played in some No. 1 doubles action against Texas A&M with Hekking before falling 6-4.
Head coach
Mat Iandolo is in his 12
th year at the helm after the Utes put together another successful season in 2018. With 10 dual wins, an all-conference performer, six all-academic nods and three ITA Scholar-Athletes, the Utes are looking to continue the momentum upward as they head into their home opener this weekend.
