NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The University of Utah women's tennis team started their 2019 season earlier today against Texas A&M at the famous Palisades club. The Utes were unable to come away with a victory, as they were swept by the Aggies, 4-0.
To start things off, Texas A&M was able to earn the doubles point and go up 1-0 against the Utes. At the No. 1 position, the duo of
Whitney Hekking and
Leah Heimuli fell short in a competitive match, falling to Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova with a score of 6-4. To seal the point, Texas A&M's Dorthea Faa-Hviding and Riley McQuaid were able to edge out a victory against Utah's
Taylor Calton and Lindsey Hung, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot
In singles, Hekking was unable to pull off a victory on the No. 5 court, falling short to Riley McQuaid, 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 2 position, true freshman
Madison Tattini fell short to Katya Townsend in a competitive match, 6-4, 6-1. Then, at the No. 1 spot, the 110
th ranked singles player, Jayci Goldsmith, topped Utah's
Brianna Chisholm, 7-6, 6-2, to give the Aggies a 4-0 win.
The University of Utah women's tennis team will be back in action on January 19
th, as they will play their home opener at the Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City. The Utes will take on in-state opponents Utah State University at 12pm MT, followed by a match against Southern Utah University at 6:00pm MT.
