SAN FRANCISCO – The Utah men's golf team opened up action at The Goodwin on Thursday morning, completing the first 18 holes of the event. The Utes will head into the second round in a tie for 24
th place in San Francisco, Calif.
Utah posted a first-round score of 14-over par (298) at the par-71, 7,143-yard TPC Harding Park Golf Course. Despite late struggles on the day, junior
Kyler Dunkle was a bright spot for the Utes. Dunkle led Utah's five-man team and sits in a tie for 16
th overall with a first-round score of 1-under par (70).
"Kyler played great!" said head coach
Garrett Clegg. "We played good for nine holes and then really struggled the final nine. Tomorrow will be a better day."
Tournament host, No. 20 Stanford, led the 26-team field on the opening day of the event after registering a first-round score of 7-under par (277). Northwestern (-6) sits in second place, No. 9 Oklahoma (-5) and No. 31 Oregon (-5) are tied for third place, while No. 24 UNLV (-2) and No. 11 California (-2) are currently in a tie for fifth place.

Blake Tomlinson and sophomore
Jordan Costello each recorded rounds of 4-over par (75) and sit in a tie for 89
th place.
Freshman
Tristan Mandur rounded out the team score on Thursday, posting 7-over par (78) in the first round and sits in a tie for 119
th place. In his first event as a Ute, freshman
Andrew Crockett recorded 9-over par (80) in the first round. Crockett heads into the second round in a tie for 133
rd place.
The second round of action at The Goodwin will get underway Friday morning beginning at 7:30 a.m. PDT. For the Utes, Crockett will be the first Ute to tee off on the No. 10 tee at 1:20 p.m. PDT. Mandur will follow at 1:31 p.m., Costello at 1:42 p.m., Tomlinson at 1:53 p.m., while Dunkle will tee off last for Utah at 2:04 p.m. Live stats may be found at golfstat.com.
