The Utes travel to the Bay Area.
SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's track and field team will send student-athletes to three different meets this Friday and Saturday, Mar. 30-31. For the Utes, a limited number of sprinters and distance runners will travel to Silicon Valley to compete at the Stanford Invitational, while the rest of the Utah distance runners will compete at the San Francisco State Invite. Others will compete locally at the Utah Valley Invitational.
"Certainly an exciting weekend ahead with meets all over the place in the Bay area as well as back home here at UVU," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We are excited about all of those opportunities. I thought so far through two meets we've really looked about as good as we've looked in quite a few years."
In Silicon Valley, the Utes will be competing at the Stanford Invitational. The two-day meet is scheduled to start on Friday at 9:00 a.m. (PST) and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (PST). The meet will take place at the Cobb Track and Angell Field. Highlighting the Stanford meet for the Utes will be senior Grayson Murphy, who will be making her outdoor season debut competing in the 3,000 steeplechase event. Last season Murphy placed fifth in this event at the NCAA Championships to earn first-team All-America honors and the USTFCCCA ranks her ninth in its preseason poll.
Junior Caitlin Faust, sophomore Sarah Newton and senior Grace Englund will compete in the 800-meter race on Saturday. Faust and Newton currently rank inside the top 30 nationally in the event. Atisme will compete in both the 400-meter (Friday) and 200-meter (Saturday) races, while Jackie Martin will compete on Friday in the 400-meter event. Atisme holds the school records in both the 100 and 200-meter events while freshman Martin moved into the top 10 with her early-season times in the event. Also competing at Stanford will be senior Madison Lanford and freshman Ruby Jane Mathewson in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Raynee Helm Wheelock will compete in the 100-meter event while junior Eliza Hansen will compete in the high jump.
At San Francisco State, the two-day meet will be held at Chabot College in Hayward, Calif., instead of their home track at Cox stadium due to damage. Competition is scheduled to begin Friday at 8:00 a.m. (PST) and Saturday at 9:00 a.m. (PST). Several runners, including junior Jade Muvley, will compete in the 10,000-meter race early Friday morning. Competing in the 5,000-meter race for the Utes will be sophomore Poppy Tank, senior Jessica Sams, and senior Louise Mercer. Tank and Sams rank eighth and 10th all-time at Utah in the 5,000-meter event. Competing in the 5,000 later in the evening will be true freshman Aubrey Argyle and redshirt freshman Trina Moreno. Senior Dakota Grossman will be competing in her first-ever steeplechase.
Down in Orem, the Utes will compete at the Utah Valley Invitational. The two-day meet will take place at the Hal Wing Track and Field on the Utah Valley campus. Competing for the Utes will be senior Mesa Weidle, freshman Whitney Hessler, sophomore Brooke Martin, freshman Rachel Whipple, and junior Lauren McClusky. Weidle and Hessler will both be competing in the 800-meter race while both Whipple and Martin will be competing in the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Lauren McCluskey will also be competing for the Utes in the high jump.
