SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track and field team heads back up to Washington to compete in the Husky Classic. The two-day event will take place this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, at the Dempsey Indoor Track in Seattle, Washington. Competition is set to start at 4:00 p.m. (PST) on Friday evening and 9:00 a.m. (PST) Saturday morning.
"Husky is always one of the best meets in the entire country and possibly even the entire year," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "It's a national-level meet with competition there from all over the country, some of the best teams in the country, some of the best runners in the country, and professional athletes there trying to sharpen their skills for the U.S. Indoor Championships."
The events that Utah will be competing in are the 60-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter, DMR (distance medley relay), 3,000-meter, 5,000-meter, and a 4x400 relay.
Senior
Alissa Atisme gets back on the track for the Utes and will be highlighting the 60 meter, 400 meter, and 4x400 meter relay events.
Grace Englund along with
Caitlin Faust highlight the 800-meter event for the Utes. Currently Faust and Englund rank 10th and 11th in the 800-meter event in the MPSF conference.
Sophomore
Poppy Tank will also be making a return after taking the week off and will be highlighting the 3,000-meter event for the Utes. Last time out Tank placed 11th in the 3,000-meter event with a personal-best time of 9:29.22. This topped her previous personal record by 10 seconds and moved her into fifth place all-time at Utah. Tank currently ranks 15th in the 3,000-meter in the MPSF conference.
"We are excited to get back to Seattle and everyone knows it's a fast track," Kepler explained. "It's a big meet, national-caliber meet, and it's always fun to get in that environment and try to take advantage of some fast races and some great competition."
