"Overall we are disappointed in how we played today," said head coach
Garrett Clegg. "We were playing good golf most of the day and then finished poorly to drive down to 10
th place. Overall, it was a decent way to get the season started. We have a lot of lessons to learn and we will be better prepared for the National Invitational Tournament because of what we went through this week."
Two Utes recorded top-20 performances following Saturday's third round of play. Sophomore
Jordan Costello finished the event with a combined 3-under par (71-67-75=213) to place in a tie for 14
th overall. Freshman
Blake Tomlinson registered a three-day score of 2-under par (73-71-70=214) to finish in a tie for 17
th place.
The top-20 performance marks Costello's second of the season and sixth of his career, while Tomlinson notched the third top-20 finish of his freshman season.
"
Blake Tomlinson had a great day today. He finished the tournament at two under par and made some crucial par putts to keep his round going," Clegg said. "
Jordan Costello had a great tournament also. He struggled today, but his play helped us a lot this week."
Freshman
Tristan Mandur (71-72-77=220) and junior
Nathan Wunderli (70-77-73=220) each posted a combined score of 4-over par to finish in a tie for 51
