SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's swimming and diving team made sure its seniors enjoyed their last meet at Ute Natatorium with a resounding 187-75 win over Washington State.
"I thought we were pretty sharp," said head coach
Joe Dykstra. "Sometimes I get a little worried about race fatigue because we have had four meets in a row over consecutive weeks, but I feel like we got through it. The team came out motivated and performed well."
Gillian St. John was one of four Utes to win multiple individual events and swam middle legs in the victorious 200 medley and 200 free relays
The junior from Albuquerque won the 50 free in 24.01 and then took the 50 fly in 25.52. St. John,
Emma Broome, Genny Robertson and
Jenna Marsh won the 200 medley in 1:42.68, then St. John and Marsh teamed with
Dorien Butter and
Sarah Lott to take the 200 free relay in 1:33.74.
Butter, competing in her final meet at Ute Natatorium, went on to take the 200 free (1:51.38) and 100 free (51.39). Robertson won the 50 breast (29.34) and 100 breast (1:03.77) events, while
Sara McClendon took the 1000 free (10:11.68) and 500 free (4:59.71)
The other winners for Utah were Lott in the 100 back (55.31) and
Jordan Anderson in the 400 IM (4:26.37), Lott also came second in the 50 back with Anderson taking runner-up in the 500 free and third in the 100 fly.
Marsh, who was part of the winning 200 medley group, also took second in the 50 fly and third in the 50 free during her senior meet. Fellow seniors
Kat Wickham, placed third in the 1000 free, and
Hailey Pabst, participated in the 200 and 500 free
The Utes will now prepare for the Pac-12 Championships, Feb. 21-24 in Federal Way, Wash.
