The Utes travel to Seattle, Wash.
SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah indoor track and field team travels north to Washington to compete in the UW Invitational. The two-day meet will take place this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27, and is set to start at 1:30 p.m. (PST) on Friday and 9:00 a.m. (PST) on Saturday. The meet will take place at the Dempsey Indoor Track in Seattle, Wash.
"This is a little more of a high-powered meet, but it is certainly a place we are familiar with," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "It's is a meet that half of our team needs as we start to look forward to getting back up there for the MPSF meet at the end of the year, so this is a good first step towards that."
The primary events that the Utes will be competing in include the 400-meter, 800-meter, one mile, and 3,000-meter. Utah will send up 20 athletes to compete at the Dempsey Indoor Track which is a 307-meter track with a six-lane straight away and a five-lane oval.
"The Dempsey is really noted for some of the performances in the distance events over the years," Kepler stated. "It is still a great place to get some sprinting and jumping and to do some other things so we will take a good variety of kids up there."
Looking to keep the momentum going from last weekend, freshman Ruby Jane Mathewson will start the day competing in the women's pentathlon. In the 3,000-meter event, seniors Hannah McInturff, and Jessica Sams along with sophomore Poppy Tank will be highlighting the event for the Utes. Highlighting the 400-meter event is senior Alissa Atisme. Last week Atisme set a new school record in the 60-meter dash. Competing in the 800-meter event for the Utes will be senior Grace Englund and junior Caitlin Faust.
The Utes will also compete in the distance medley relay (DMR). The four runners that will compete for the Utes will be senior Megan Perkins-Killian, senior Madison Lanford, sophomore Melissa Taggart, and senior Dakota Grossman.
Utah may also send several student-athletes to Ogden to compete in the Wildcat Indoor Open on Saturday.
