SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis team will be making a road trip to Cambridge, Massachusetts, this weekend as they will participate in the Harvard Kick-Off.
This event will be held January 27
th and 28
th, with play beginning at 10 a.m. MST on both days. On Saturday, the Utes will match up against Wichita State University (0-0) at 2 p.m. MST, with the opponent for the Utes yet to be determined for their match on Sunday at 10 a.m. MST.

Utah Notes
The Utah men's tennis team is coming off of their opening weekend of spring play, going undefeated with a record of 4-0 to start of the season. The Utes opened up last Friday against Montana State, sweeping the Bobcats with a final score of 7-0. Notable wins included the doubles team of
Randy Cory and
Russell Benkaim, picking up a win at the No. 2 position with a score of 6-2.
Joe Woolley and
Dan Little were also victorious at the No. 1 spot, coming away with a final score of 6-2 to take the doubles point for the Utes. In singles action, Cory,
Santiago Sierra, Woolley, Benkaim and
David Micevski all won in straight sets to give the Utes the secured victory. Later in the day on Friday, the Utes also hosted the Weber State Wildcats, coming away with a victory of 5-2. Weber State went up early by claiming the doubles point, but later bounced back in singles.
Dan Little started the comeback at the No. 2 position, defeating Kris Van Wyk 6-3, 7-6.
David Micevski followed with a win at the No. 1 spot, beating out Stefan Cooper 6-3, 7-6. Then at the No. 3 position,
Egbert Weverink chalked up a win against Nick Werner 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Santiago Sierra and Randy Corey then finished things off with a win each of their own, defeating the Wildcats with a final score of 5-2.
The Utes then finished up their weekend with two matches on Sunday, taking on Utah State and Idaho State. Against Utah State, the Utes took the early edge by earning the doubles point. The doubles team consitisting of Cory and Benkaim came away with another win, finish with a score of 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.
Egbert Weverink and
David Micevski then finished things off at the No. 3 spot, coming away with a 7-5 victory. In singles,
Dan Little picked up a quick win against Jaime Barajas at the No. 1 spot, finishing 6-4, 6-3. Micevski followed with a win at the No. 2 position, besting Samuel Serrano with a score of 6-2,6-1. To give the Utes the win,
Santiago Sierra defeated Addy Vashistha on the No. 6 court with a score of 6-4, 6-1, finishing off the Aggies with the final score of 4-3. Later in the day against day against Idaho State, the Utes quickly earned the doubles point with wins by Cory and Benkaim at the No. 2 spot, and
Azat Hankuliyev and Micevski at the No. 3 position. In singles, all six Utes finished off the Bengals in straight sets, sweeping Idaho State 7-0.
Opponent Notes
Wichita State has yet to play a match in the spring season, but will see their first action on Wednesday, January 24, against the University of Buffalo. The Shockers will then have another match on Thursday, January 25
th, as they will take on Cornell before making the road trip to the Harvard Kick-Off. Last season, Wichita State finished with an overall record of 13-13, going 1-2 in conference play. The Shockers were also able to make it to the Missouri Valley Conference tournament, but lost to Southern Illinois in the first round with a score of 2-4. Wichita State has seven returned players from last season, and will be led by head coach Danny Bryan, as he enters his second season with the program.
