SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's golf team will play in a total of 11 regular-season events for the upcoming 2017-18 season, head coach
Garrett Clegg announced on Wednesday.
"I am excited for our upcoming season," said Clegg. "Along with a few events we competed in last season, we have also added several first-class tournaments to beef-up our strength of schedule this upcoming season."
The 2017-18 schedule features four tournaments in the fall, with seven regular-season events to follow in the spring. The Utes will make trips to Arizona (3), Colorado (2), California (2), Hawaii (1), Oregon (1) and West Virginia (1), while competing in one event in the state of Utah.
Utah opens the fall season with back-to-back trips to Colorado, competing in both the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational (Sept. 8-10) and Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational (Sept. 25-26). The Utes then head to Fresno, Calif., to compete in the Nick Watney Invitational (Oct. 2-3) before closing out the fall slate at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate (Oct. 9-10) in Bridgeport, W. Va.
The Utes open spring competition in Hawaii at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate (Feb. 15-17) and then follow with consecutive dates in Arizona, competing at both the N.I.T. at Omni (Feb. 26-27) and Desert Mountain Intercollegiate (March 3-4) events. Following a trip to Oregon to compete in the Bandon Dunes Championship (March 11-13), the Utes will head back to California to compete at Stanford's Goodwin Collegiate (March 29-31).
Utah will then make the short trip south to Provo to compete in BYU's PING Cougar Classic (April 9-10), before closing out the regular-season at the Arizona State Thunderbird Classic (April 14-15).
The 2018 Pac-12 Championships will take place at Rolling Hills Country Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. The conference championship makes its return to California for the first time since 2013 when the event was held at Los Angeles Country Club.
NCAA Regionals take place May 14-16 at campus sites, with Oklahoma State hosting the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla., May 25-30.
Utah returns six letterwinners from last season's squad that registered a program-best, five top-three finishes on the year. Three of the six golfers returning –
Kyler Dunkle,
Jordan Costello and
Mitchell Schow – competed in all 13 events for the Utes last season.
"Our players have been working hard all summer and they have had success throughout the country in their individual tournaments," said Clegg. "We have a young squad this season comprised of four freshman, four sophomores along with two juniors, and I look forward to getting the season started at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in September."
